Why Opal exists.
I spent my career in audit, risk, and compliance — running programs, facing external auditors across the table, and reporting to audit committees.
Every team I worked on had the same problem. The best people spent their time on the worst work: rebuilding test schedules, chasing sign-offs, formatting workpapers, being the human reminder system. The strategic work — the reason any of us got into this profession — happened in the margins.
The GRC tools didn't help. They were either priced for enterprises with armies to administer them, or they were blank canvases that made you do the building. And none of them could answer the question that actually matters: are our controls operating, right now?
So I built Opal — the platform I kept wishing I had. AI that does the busywork of real audit fieldwork, with a human accepting every output before it touches the record. A certification cadence that runs itself. And a real-time view of control operation that a CFO can check in 30 seconds.
Built with practitioners, not just for them.
Opal is developed alongside a working group of practicing audit, risk, and compliance professionals — internal auditors, SOX program leads, and compliance officers from public and pre-IPO companies — who test every feature against how real programs actually run.
When a workflow in Opal feels like it was designed by someone who's been through a SOX audit — that's because it was reviewed by several people who have.
Small by design. Serious by profession.
Opal is a US-based company, built by a deliberately small team with deep domain expertise rather than a large one learning the domain. What that means for you:
Demos, onboarding, and support come from people who know what a workpaper is, what a sub-certification is for, and why your Q3 deadline is not movable.
No product committee stands between your feedback and the roadmap. Founding customers shape the product directly.
How we handle your data, our compliance roadmap, and our AI data practices are documented in full on our Trust & Security page →
Export everything, anytime, in standard formats. Our terms guarantee it.

What we believe.
AI accelerates the work; it never becomes the accountable party. Nothing enters the formal record without human review and acceptance.
If a control is operating, you should be able to see it — not schedule a meeting about it.
Every hour an auditor spends rebuilding a schedule or chasing a sign-off is an hour the platform should have absorbed.
In the product, in our pricing, on this page. It's what your profession runs on, so it's what we run on.
Early, on purpose.
Opal is a young company, and we don't pretend otherwise. Our founding-customer program makes being early a decision that pays: locked founding pricing, direct influence on the roadmap, and a white-glove launch. A limited number of organizations get it. When they're gone, the program ends.
